• 10^120'ye eşittir. oynanabilecek olası satranç oyunları sayısıdır. ismi claude shannon'dan gelir. hep aynı tarzda oynayan iki insanın bile neden oyunlarının farklı bittiğinin cevabıdır.
• evrende yüz milyon galaksi, her galakside ise trilyonlarca yıldız olduğunu düşünelim. yapılan hesaplamalara göre, gözlemlenebilen evrende 10^23 tane yıldız olduğu hesaplanmıştır. şimdi de her bir yıldızın büyüklüğünün, güneşimizle eş değer olduğu düşünelim. güneşin kütlesinin 2x10^30 olduğunu kabul edecek olursak, bu sayı toplamda yıldız başına 10^57 hidrojen atomuna denk düşer. tanesi 10^57 hidrojen atomu içeren 10^23 adet yıldızın da gözlemlenebilen evrende 10^80 tane hidrojen atomu içerdiği çıkarımı yapılmıştır.
  
  shannon sayısı ise bizlere bu varsayım üzerinden satrancın nasıl bir oyun olduğu hakkında ufak da olsa bir ipucu verebilecek bir sayıdır.
• arthur c. clarke'in "quarantine" adli kisa hikayesini akla getiren sayi. turkcesini bulamadim ama yapistiriyorum. bir ara ceviririm belki:
